3. Husk
Paige Guthrie, known as Husk, is a mutant that deserves a lot more recognition than she currently gets. For one, her mutant power is immensely cool, if a touch gross. You see, Husk can peel off her current layer of skin to reveal a new one beneath, made out of an entirely different material. That means she can shift to pretty much any material she wants, though she often takes a cue from Colossus and goes with metal or stone skin. Husk can also heal herself by shedding the skin of a damaged form for a new one.
Paige is the younger sister of Sam Guthrie, the X-Man known as “Cannonball”. Both are from a poor coal-mining family in Kentucky. Unlike her brother, Husk is self-conscious of being a “hick” (Jubilee sometimes calls her “hayseed”).
At some point in the Earth-616 continuity, Husk’s mutation begins to affect her mind. With each shedding, her perceptions and personality change, sometimes drastically. Given enough shifts in a short enough period of time, and she can even lose some of her short-term memory. The X-Men are currently okay with this, if a little creeped out. Even, she even becomes the new guidance counselor for the Massachusetts Academy, a kind of satellite campus for Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters.
