Is There a New Episode of Scandal Tonight, Jan. 19?
By Buckie Wells
After an obnoxiously long hiatus, Scandal returns to television at its usual TGIT time slot. Unfortunately, its premiere has been pushed back one more week.
Scandal ended Season 5 back in May 2016. It’s been off the air for quite some time, but it’s lead star, Kerry Washington, got pregnant, so Season 6 was held until now. Unfortunately, that means many fans have forgotten what even happened in the previous season.
Luckily, I am here to refresh everyone’s memories.
Most of the season followed the presidential race between Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) and Frankie Vargas (Ricardo Chavira). Obviously, there were other candidates in the race as well. But when it comes to power in the Oval Office, few can stay in the ring with the likes of Olivia Pope (Washington) and Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry). Somehow, Cyrus manipulated everything in his favor — he went from being Vargas’ campaign manager to his running mate. Meanwhile, Mellie chose Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) as her running mate. Well, not so much “chose” as she was also forced into the situation. Really, the only person who loses in the situation is Jake, who just wanted a normal life and to coach little league.
However, I can’t really fill you in on what happened specifically between Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) and Olivia. I presume they were on and off, but it’s the least interesting plotline of the show. Why ship Fitz and Olivia when you can ship Olivia and Power? Mellie and Power? Women and Power?

So, here’s the promo for the Season 6 premiere:
I love when things blow up.
Obviously, ABC originally planned for Scandal to return on Jan. 19. But ABC pushed it back another week in order to air a 20/20 special on Trump before the inauguration.
