The Emmy-award winning actor just joined Marvel’s Black Panther, but he’s ready and willing to jump ship to DC for the upcoming Green Lantern movie.
Sterling K. Brown’s having a great year! He’s won an Emmy and a Critic’s Choice Award for his role in American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson, his new show This Is Us is a huge hit, and he just joined the cast of Marvel’s Black Panther. But he’s still looking for more action and is eager to join the DC Universe as the Green Lantern.
The ever-expanding DC Cinematic Universe is looking to bring multiple Green Lanterns to the big screen for the upcoming Green Lantern Corps, including John Stewart, the first ever African-American superhero in DC Comics.
Now, John Stewart (no relation to The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart) first appeared in the comics in 1971. Then, he became a fan favorite Lantern after appearing in the Justice League and Justice League: Unlimted animated series.
George Miller’s famously canceled version of the Justice League almost featured musician and actor, Common in the role of John Stewart. So Common’s been the top contender amongst fans to play the role ever since, with other popular choices being Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and even Denzel Washington. Count Sterling K. Brown into the mix now!
If Sterling snags the role, he won’t be the first actor to cross between Marvel and DC. For example, J.K. Simmons, best known for playing J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man movies, joined Justice League as Commissioner Gordon, and Ben Affleck moved on from Daredevil to Batman.
Obviously, former Green Lantern star Ryan Reynolds has also crossed companies and isn’t likely to switch back. Marvel’s Deadpool film has been a hit with both fans and critics, which is more than the massively panned 2011 Green Lantern film ever did. So who’s likely to step into the role of Hal Jordan? Maybe DC opts to go younger with Kingsman star Taron Egerton, or young Han Solo Alden Ehrenreich. And there’s always the chance they will pick a relative unknown like with Wonder Woman‘s Gal Gadot!
Next: And the Villain in the Wonder Woman Movie is…
Also, if Mexican-American Green Lantern Kyle Rayner joins Green Lantern Corps, there is only one choice: Diego Luna.
