Logan’s Synopsis Sounds Very Serious
The official synopsis for Hugh Jackman’s supposedly-final turn as Wolverine, Logan, sounds interesting both for its tone and the mention of a new character.
Alas, the current trend for big superhero movies is to make them pretty grim in tone. Although Marvel hasn’t yet fallen to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice levels, Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange both dealt with some heavy topics. (It helps that Marvel manages to sneak actual jokes into even their most serious of movies. Spider-Man in Civil War is hilarious.) So, now that we’re into a new year, it seems reasonable to expect that there will be a shift, right? Well, that shift won’t come with Logan, if this new synopsis is any indication.
Star Hugh Jackman posted this to his official Twitter account earlier today, with the caption “Official”:
The Synopsis
For the sake of readability, here’s what the image says:
"“In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.”"
There’s a lot to unpack there. We already knew that Professor X would feature prominently — and that he would be ill or otherwise incapacitated — from the first trailer. So too did we figure that there would be an Old Man Logan inspired storyline. Presumably the young mutant can also be spotted at the end of that trailer, as the young child with sunglasses that takes Logan’s hand.
This may very well be the Civil War of Wolverine movies, in that it’s a lot more serious and deals with a fallout of some sorts. It also just sounds completely serious. Wolverine calls people “bub” in the comics and has the silliest sound effect in all of comics with “snikt”. Hopefully the movie will be able to have some sort of levity among all the somberness.
