Agents of SHIELD: The Koenigs Will Return! Are They LMDs?
Life model decoys or just a lot of identical brothers? Patton Oswalt’s Koenig brothers are coming back to Agents of SHIELD with a family secret we probably already know.
With the back-half of Agents of SHIELD’s season being subtitled “LMD,” you had to expect Patton Oswalt’s Koenig brothers to return. I mean… sure, they could be triplets/quadruplets/etc., and that’s kind of what they alluded to when they were around in season two. But that seems too boring for Agents of SHIELD.
Thanks to a scoop from Entertainment Weekly, we now know that the Koenig brothers are returning to our screens. That’s right, they’ll be back in the January 31st episode, oddly titled “Hot Potato Soup.” From EW:
"The episode finds Sam and Billy being hunted down in a bid to get at the Darkhold, and only Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Co. can save them—but viewers may also get some long-awaited answers!“Patton Oswalt returns as the Koenigs, and we finally reveal their family secret,” executive produces Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen tell EW."
Okay obviously the “long-awaited answers” and “family secret” are that they’re not brothers, but rather life model decoys. This makes total sense. Their interactions with our SHIELD friends are all creepily similar. Plus they did joke that there are 13 of them.
On the other hand, this opens up a ton of questions. Namely, who the heck built them? We thought Aida was the first of her kind! Sure, we thought Coulson was an LMD until we learned about Project TAHITI. But if it wasn’t Holden Radcliffe who built the Koenigs, then who?
Who else has their hands on LMD plans? And how long until we get that Grant Ward LMD? Because you know Aida and the Koenigs are only the tip of the iceberg. Fingers crossed for an Agent Carter LMD.
