Joe Biden, America’s current Vice President, was the last to receive the honor of the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama.

Joe Biden has easily become the most loved of the vice presidents (at least in recent years). We call him Uncle Joe and many of us love him as if we had a personal relationship with him. So today, when President Obama surprised Joe with his final Presidential Medal of Freedom, many of us were emotional.

Joe went through a lot in his life time. His first wife and daughter died in a car crash in 1972. Then during his time  as Vice President, Biden lost his son Beau to cancer. And that is just some of the heartache that our VP has faced.

So today, when Obama surprised Biden with this final act, he was pretty emotional. As was everyone in the room and everyone watching. He got a standing ovation and many across the nation were watching and applauding as this amazing man was given one of the highest honors our country has to offer.

And it was met with no obligations from us. If anyone deserved the Presidential Medal of Freedom, it was Joe Biden. For all he’s done for this country, we owe him at least that much and so much more.
