We Want These Pieces Inspired by Padmé Amidala

It’s tough to deny that Padmé Amidala had cool clothes in Star Wars. Elhoffer Designs is now working on a collection of pieces based on some iconic looks.

Say what you will about the quality of storytelling in the Star Wars prequel films (and we do, loudly and often, to anyone who will listen to us), but it’s hard to really knock the costume design. Sure, it was fancier than pretty much anything anyone wore in the original films. That also made a lot of sense, though, since it was supposed to be a more civilized age to go with the more elegant lightsaber. Naturally, Padmé Amidala visually provided the most interest, especially since it felt like she changed her outfit every five minutes.

Now, Elhoffer Designs has put out preliminary sketches for a collection called “Galactic Queen,” pretty clearly inspired by some of those famous costumes. With a tip of the hat to Fashionably Geek, check out the sketches below:

Alas, the fur-edged poncho lost out even before the Twitter poll started. Here are those results:

The Sunrise Cardigan, seen on the far right in the above sketch, takes its inspiration from one of the handmaiden disguises from The Phantom Menace. Of course, this piece currently has a hood to help you hide your own face. The Twilight Dolman takes nods from Revenge of the Sith. Finally, the Dusk Poncho is based on one of Padmé’s dresses worn at the lake retreat in Attack of the Clones. Presumably these pieces would be made first, though we wouldn’t say no to that Galactic Twilight oversized sweater, either.

Elhoffer Design makes pretty small production runs, but yours truly is willing to fight for that Sunrise Cardigan. As of now, no official release date has been announced, but keep an eye on this collection.
