5. Denny’s
Denny’s is a textbook example of “know your audience.” They know that the same people who tend to hang out at Denny’s at three in the morning are also the same kind of people who hang out on Tumblr at three in the morning. They totally get it.
The Denny’s Tumblr account is full of those sort of pre-dawn, sleep deprived, under the influence musings that tend to circulate on late night Tumblr. It’s that odd kind of humor that falls somewhere between puns and sarcasm in the form of reblogs and responses to questions in their inbox. And then there’s that weird magic eight ball that’s shaped like an egg … It all comes together in a collection of posts that will either have you rolling on the floor, make you really uncomfortable, or leave you saying “WTF, Denny’s?” When someone sent them a message saying “Who the hell runs your Tumblr, you’re a trainwreck”, their response was “chugga chugga choo chooooooo!! chugga chugga choooosjhdhwusuwgfwyuejdincheesejdj aiapnrhwpancakeshcjfjdisosnsbhashbrownsanajdisosmdheiapsndusgritsbajfifprlsjauwhahnachosbahsjjeoaksjdhdjdhdhijcrashboomfizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzsssssssssssss…………..”
While all of these other brands make it seem like they’ve got this amazing team of creative people with marketing degrees and tons of experience, Denny’s social media posts come across like the CEO handed the job over to their teenager. That’s actually a good thing, especially when you consider that this imaginary teenager probably is a team of people who are just really good at what they do.
