4. Skittles

What’s the first thing you think of if someone says “Skittles advertising”? Probably their “taste the rainbow” slogan, right? The brand has definitely been marketed as quirky, odd, and colorful. But through social media, Skittles has started expanding their horizons, making an effort to reach a new audience. In 2014, Mars Inc., the company that owns Skittles, announced that they were partnering with the NFL. (They have Marshawn Lynch to thank for that.) Two years later, that partnership has kicked into high gear.

If you take a look at some of the recent posts on the Skittles Twitter account, you’ll see a lot of retweets from NFL players showing off their Skittles care packages. Antonio Brown shared a video of his new Skittles vending machine on Instagram. And Trevor Siemian, quarterback for the Denver Broncos, gifted some of his fellow Broncos with Skittles-dispensing parkas which, naturally, he tweeted about (and so did Matt Paradis). Basically, if you follow football, you’re going to be seeing a lot from Skittles over the next few weeks leading up to the Super Bowl.

It may seem like an unusual pairing — a colorful candy and a bunch of burly football players — but it’s working for them. Obviously, they’re sponsored posts, but who cares because that parka is SO COOL.
