Everybody Totally Wants to See Alien: Covenant and Star Wars: Episode VIII This Year

In what must seem like a total shock, a survey taken names Star Wars: Episode VIII the most anticipated movie of 2017, with some surprises on the list.

This year will bring with it a plethora of new movies, all vying for your ticket-buying dollars. To set the tone for this year, Rotten Tomatoes took it upon themselves to conduct a survey about the most anticipated movies of the year, reported on by Entertainment WeeklyThere weren’t any disturbances in the Force about the top flick: Star Wars: Episode VIII.

However, the following four films may end up as somewhat of a surprise. Blade Runner 2049 takes second. Then comes Alien: CovenantGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has the fourth-place position. Finally is…War for the Planet of the Apes. Why does Alien: Covenant make it so high? As another of our writers put it, the trailer has little more than cheap scares. What happened to “In space, no one can hear you scream“?

Maybe it should really be more like “In space, no one can hear you scream in rage about how this franchise should have been left alone”.

It also saddens and pains me that Thor: Ragnarok does not get as much love as yours truly has for that particular sub-franchise. It at least ranks fifth on the list of most anticipated comic book adaptations, behind GuardiansLoganWonder Woman, and Spider-Man: Homecoming in order from top to bottom. Wonder Woman should probably rank a bit higher there, too, but it’s hard to deny the appeal of classic rock and Zoe Saldana. Chris Pratt needs to work his way back into our good graces after Passengers happened.

Other movies on the various lists include The Mummy (fifth place, most anticipated reboot), The Dark Tower (most anticipated book adaptation), and Beauty and the Beast (second most anticipated family movie).
