12. Dynasty Warriors: Godseekers

Now, the Dynasty Warrior games may not be the most well-designed games out there, but it’s tough to deny that they can be a lot of fun. Alas, this isn’t a new main series title. Instead, it seems to have taken the Empires spinoffs’ inclusion of strategic elements and then pushed that forward.

You see, Dynasty Warriors: Godseekers effectively appears to be a full-blown tactical RPG in the vein of something like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics. No more hacking and slashing in the form of button pressing, though the trailer shows that enemy units have multiple people standing in them to remind you of how many foes you’re decimating with one well-executed attack.

This time, it’ll be all about positioning your units correctly and fighting your way through turn-based battles. This doesn’t mean that the typical bevy of cool things you can do has been completely excised, though. There will be synchronized attacks as well as special Orbs from Lixia, a new character found by Zhao Yun and his also-new best friend Lei Bin during the events of the game.

Other than that, it looks like the game will tell the usual story of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, just with additional twists to accommodate the mysteriously-frozen Lixia. Also, Lei Bin has the spiffiest monocle.

Dynasty Warriors: Godseekers will hit the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita on Jan. 31.
