Season 2: Team Women: The Oz Quartet

Season Two also started strong with a group challenge based on The Wizard of Oz. Called “Return to Oz” (no relation to the little known movie of the same name) this challenge pitted the seven female contestants against the seven guys to create a new take on the famous characters from the movie. (Amusingly those characters were listed as the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, the Cowardly Lion, and the Wicked Witch of the West. Poor Dorothy. Then again, she’s not very visually interesting, is she? There’s really not much you can do with gingham.)

Of the two teams, the women had far and away the better design. We should also note that this is one of the few designs that has a steampunk design in it that passed Glenn Hetrick’s muster. (Glenn’s extreme opinions on the fad are almost a running joke, and we should be thankful the look is on its way out in trendiness. That way, designers will hopefully stop doing those sorts of looks.) Of the four looks though, it was Brea and Beki’s Wicked Witch, with her golden skin looking like a demented extra from the James Bond movie Goldfinger, that took top prize that week.
