Andra Day, “Winter Wonderland”
Andra has sort of exploded onto the scene since her debut single, “Rise Up”, took off last year. This year, in addition to garnering respect in the music biz, she also released a Christmas EP with five or six tracks, all with her signature jazzy sound.
Technically she’s an R&B singer, but when I hear her voice, I’m reminded of songstresses of generations past like Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn. Her voice is rich and deep, and she has some of the most impressive voice control of any artist out there currently. So adding her to our playlist wasn’t difficult. Coming up with the track with which to showcase her was, though. I decided on “Winter Wonderland” because it was the best example of her jazzy sound that I could find from her Christmas tracks.
To hear the rest of her Christmas tracks, check out her album Merry Christmas from Andra Day. Her debut album, Cheers to The Fall, is also worth a listen.
"Sleigh bells ring Are you listening In the lane Snow is glistening A beautiful sight We’re happy tonight Walking in a winter wonderland Gone stray is the bluebird Here to stay is a new bird He sings a love song As we go along Walking in a winter wonderland"
