Carpenters, “Christmas Waltz”, “Merry Christmas Darling”

The Carpenters were made up of sibling duo Karen and Richard Carpenter. They were best known for their soft, almost-country, almost-folk, distinctly Americana pop sound and Karen’s gorgeous voice. Sadly, Karen Carpenter died in 1983 from complications of anorexia. Because of her high-profile career and extensive coverage surrounding the circumstances of her death, more awareness was drawn to eating disorders.

My mother first drew my attention to the Carpenters when I was a kid. She loved them, and especially their Christmas music, and so I have grown to love them. I’ve included two songs of theirs, since it’s so easy to listen to and their sound has become so iconic. “Merry Christmas Darling” will be recognizable to most of you. “Christmas Waltz” is lesser known, but both songs are warm and inviting, perfect for this playlist which aims to bring together both families and friends.

"Frosted windowpanes Candles gleaming inside Painted candy canes on the tree Santa’s on his way He’s filled his sleigh with things Things for you and for me It’s that time of year When the world falls in love Every song you hear seems to say “Merry Christmas May your new year’s dreams come true”"
