Thurl Ravenscroft, “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch”
How The Grinch Stole Christmas is a Christmas classic, and a staple for Holiday watching for kids and adults alike. Same goes for the soundtrack. And no song is more memorable and iconic than the theme song, “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch”, except maybe the song the Whos sing after the Grinch has stolen all of their things (Hint: I’ve included that one, too).
Like every other Christmas song out there, there are probably a half-dozen versions of this one that I sifted through. Part of me wanted to choose a version that’s less well-known, but in the end, the original Thurl Ravenscroft version was just too beloved for me to pass over. This track isn’t one you can add more than once, unlike “Silent Night” or “O Come All Ye Faithful”. Variations in some tunes are enough to forgive duplicates, but there is only one, true Mr. Grinch, and this is it.
"You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch. You really are a heel. You’re as cuddly as a cactus, You’re as charming as an eel. Mr. Grinch. You’re a bad banana With a greasy black peel. You’re a monster, Mr Grinch Your heart’s an empty hole. Your brain is full of spiders, You’ve got garlic in your soul Mr Grinch"
