Nat King Cole, “The Christmas Song”, “I Saw Three Ships”, “Caroling, Caroling”
Has anyone actually roasted chestnuts over an open fire? I can’t remember the last time I saw a legitimate gaggle of carolers, either. But there’s something about “The Christmas Song” that absolutely rings in the holiday season. Nevermind that we’ll hear this song 759 thousand times this season– it’s been done so many times by so many good performers so well, that I can forgive the 24-hour Christmas music stations for playing it over and over and over. Nat King Cole’s version, originally recorded in 1946, is one of the best and most iconic versions of this song ever recorded, though. Adding this song to our playlist was a no-brainer, and will help add some nostalgia to some other tracks that may be more foreign.
"Chestnuts roasting on an open fire Jack Frost nipping at your nose Yule-tide carols being sung by a choir And folks dressed up like Eskimos Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe Help to make the season bright Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow Will find it hard to sleep tonight"
Also on our playlist are other Nat classics “I Saw Three Ships”, and “Caroling, Caroling”.
