1. Stranger Things

If you haven’t seen Stranger Things yet, now would actually be the perfect time to do so. The show actually takes place in December, and Christmas lights even play a not-insignificant role in the story. Our setting is Hawkins, Indiana, in the year 1983. Young Will Byers disappears while heading home after a very important Dungeons & Dragons session. What happens is not your normal search for a missing boy, but rather a paranormal mystery that involves alternate dimensions, girls who really love Eggos, and a slew of references to the 80’s, all packed into a nice, neat series.

Honestly, Stranger Things blew up this summer for a reason. That reason is that it’s simply really, really good. The young cast holds their own against more established actors like Winona Ryder, who plays Will’s mom Joyce, and the different plotlines will leave you guessing.

With just eight episodes to get through, this is a series that you might be able to finish in one day, though you could just as easily limit yourself to two per day and have some time to savor it all, work out your theories, and start thinking about the already-confirmed second season.
