3. Chef’s Table

We picked Chef’s Table for reasons similar to those of picking Planet Earth: it’s a documentary, making it relaxing watching that’s also relatively educational. However, while Planet Earth focuses on nature, Chef’s Table focuses on food and the people who make it for a living. The series doesn’t just focus on one country, though, unless you’re watching Chef’s Table: France.

No, the flagship series has visited chefs in countries like Sweden, Thailand, Brazil, and Australia in its first two seasons. Each episode profiles one chef who’s changing the food game in some way, shape or form, whether that’s by running a farm, turning street food into gourmet food, or just elevating their chosen cuisine to an even higher level. Those are just a few examples.

Since you’ll likely be watching episodes after a party or a family gathering, you’re more likely to avoid the dreaded issue of being made hungry by watching really pretty food being made. We’ve all been there, but we’re just trying to help you avoid it happening this time around.

The main series currently has 12 episodes of about 45 minutes. Chef’s Table: France adds in an additional four to bring the total up to 16. However, France is by no means required viewing.
