8. He’s Determined to Get What He Wants

Being a part of the Night’s watch was a vow of celibacy. Clearly Jon broke that rule (which should not be held against him) but he broke it because he went after something he wanted. Ygritte. There is just something so telling about someone who goes after what they want and won’t stop until they get it.

With Jon, he shows it in different ways. By breaking rules he thinks do not apply to him, he shows that he does what he wants but he sticks to the rules that are meant to make ruling easier. The Night’s Watch is a strict society and the celibacy rule is to help keep those members focused on defending the wall.

Jon was past the wall and lost out with the wildlings. So he broke the celibacy rule and fell in love with Ygritte. Yes it doesn’t show him in the most positive of lights but it does show us all that he is determined. (It also shows us that he knows what to do with the ladies and that is a very nice thing indeed)

So though Jon broke one of the rules of being a member of the Night’s Watch, he did so in a way that shows his determination and his willingness to do anything.
