The looming threat of the White Walkers is something that anyone who rules Westeros has to worry about them. The thing about Jon that makes him a better candidate than someone like Daenerys Targaryen or Cersei or, really, anyone else vying for the crown? Because he has seen the White Walkers and he knows all about them.

Something that we see time and time again in reality and in our fictional worlds is that people always fall victim to the things in their lives that they do not understand. They have little knowledge of their worst enemies and it ends up ruining them.

Jon knows how to defend against the White Walkers. He knows more than anyone how to deal with them and what needs to be done. Winter is coming and someone from the North who has dealt on the other side of the wall sounds like a perfect candidate for the throne.
