16. Orphan Black Creators/Writers

The entire series of Orphan Black is incredible, and I could go on and on about each clone and how beautifully depicted they are on screen. But I’ll stick to just one for now: Cosima Niehaus (Tatiana Maslany). Because to the LGBTQ+ community, she’s the favorite.

The writing behind this character is close to flawless. You see, Cosima has an upper respiratory disease, and season after season, it was expected that she would be one to be killed off. Not because she was queer, but because she was sick. Yet season after season, the writers kept her on. Struggling with an illness- yes. But she is alive, and in love with Delphine, who continues to stand by her side through it all.

The writers and creators have activity spoken out about their inclusion of sexuality on the show, and they don’t really care if anyone has a problem with it. In fact, Delphine was first introduced as straight on the show. Until she met Cosima. “I can think of three examples in my life that have been like that, that just wanted to be with the right person,” show runner John Fawcett says about it. “It’s not about questioning your sexuality or not questioning your sexuality — it’s about finding your person.”
