“Watch Over You”, Alter Bridge

Alter Bridge shows their softer side with “Watch Over You”, which speaks of fall and the leaves changing colors. It’s not exactly uplifting, but it’s a wonderful song as far as tone and tempo. I also happen to love Alter Bridge, so I like to sneak them into any list I can. My bias is your gain, really, because they are worthy of it every single time. In this case, although it’s not the happiest song, it asks important questions about loss and love in the absence of important people. And at the end, bringing the song full circle in respect to the seasons changing, Myles speaks of winter coming and snow being on the ground. Soon, we’ll watch for snow, too.

"Leaves are on the ground Fall has come Blue skies turning Grey Like my love I tried to carry you And make you whole But it was never enough I must go Who is gonna save you When I’m gone? And who’ll watch over you When I’m gone? You say you care for me But hide it well How can you love someone And not yourself? Who is gonna save you When I’m gone? And who’ll watch over you When I’m gone? And when I’m gone Who will break your fall? Who will you blame?"
