Right up until the economic downturn in 2008, Gossip Girl was escapism at it’s finest. Watching the misdeeds and sexual exploits of the grossly rich and insanely beautiful teenagers in the Upper West Side of Manhattan was a major guilty pleasure. (After 2008 it just made me angry at their excess and angry at their 1% attitude).

Even though we were much too old to do so, my friends and I constantly discussed if we were “Blairs” or “Serenas” and became way too invested in who these characters were sleeping with. (I was always team Dan, until that awful perm, then I was team Chuck).

“Blair Waldorf Must Pie” is the ninth episode of the first season, and it epitomizes everything we love about Gossip Girl. Dan naively feels sorry for Serena and her family for having to spend Thanksgiving at the Palace (poor folks). He invites them to Brooklyn to have dinner with his family, and the awkwardness is as thick as the gravy.

Meanwhile, Blair gets disappointed that her dad isn’t coming home and commences to eat her feelings in the form of an entire pie, which spawned the episode’s title and the hint of Blair’s bulimia.
