Of all the shows on this list, the Roseanne Thanksgiving looks as close to what the holiday looked like at my house. Lots of loud-talking family and friends, a Wal-mart turkey, and a beleaguered, put upon cook. Roseanne was one of the first show that featured a working class American family and it’s midwestern setting proved it the most relatable show airing at it’s time. We still don’t have a lot of shows on television about poor people, you know.

“We Gather Together” the entire family gathers and this is when the May-December romance between Dan’s father and Roseanne’s friend Crystal starts to blossom. Dan confronts his father, furthering a true American Thanksgiving ritual, and Jackie reveals her career to her mother, who instantly disapproves.

Roseanne, you are my people.

This episode premiered in the show’s second season, before things went off the rails a little in later seasons. It encapsulates everything that made this show great, and I try to watch it at least once during this holiday week.
