14. Raina and Nimah Amin- Quantico

Quantico is basically just a bundle of diversity. The show is about a group of FBI agent wannabes who need to graduate from Quantico. But they all hold secrets that they’re not willing to talk openly about. Season 1 in its entirety is pretty much stereotyping people of cross-continental backgrounds. But at the end, it’s proven that stereotypes do more harm than good.

The first season centers on a terrorist attack that someone from inside Quantico executed. The first person to be blamed is the lead, Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra), who is of Indian decent. The next people who are looked at are Muslim twins, Nimah and Raina Amin. Of course. How fitting for the state of our country right now. I won’t give away the ending if you haven’t seen this show, but when the “whodunit’s” finally revealed, it’s the last person anyone would think.

Yasmine Al-Massri, the woman behind the twins, has an international background as well- born in Beirut to a family of refugees. She enjoyed playing the differing personalities of Raina and Nimah, but enjoyed playing an American Muslim even more. She notes in an interview with Women In The World, “You’re not trusting the Muslims and you are judging them because you think Muslims cannot work for the United States of America — that they cannot be loyal to the United States, but you’re wrong.
