33. Senator Amidala

Similarly to TPM, Padmé wears too many costumes for too short a time in AOTC to really put them all on this list, so this outfit represents her general Senator’s wardrobe. Specifically, she wears this early in the movie, when she meets with Chancellor Palpatine and the Jedi Council, then reunites with Anakin and Obi-Wan after they take on the role of her bodyguards.

This ticks off the boxes for a Senator Amidala look: elaborate headpiece or hairstyle, layers, and a generally dark palette. In other words, Senator Amidala doesn’t dress that much differently than she did as Queen of Naboo, but the Senator almost completely eschews red and incorporates more blue into her wardrobe instead. Any embroidery also tends to be less prominent, as opposed to, say, the red throne room gown.

Senator Amidala’s looks also tend to have less volume in the sleeves, particularly in AOTC and still somewhat in ROTS, when she’s concealing her pregnancy by wearing lots of loose robes.

Mostly, if you remember this look, you are going to remember it for the headpiece. How much do you think actress Natalie Portman had to watch how she turned her head, lest she whack someone in the face or chest with that thing?
