Common, Black America Again
ARTium Recordings / Def Jam Recordings

Longtime Rapper/Hip Hop artist and poet (and actor/ producer/ film producer…) will release Black America Again this Friday, two years after the release of Nobody’s Smiling. Common collaborated with Stevie Wonder for the album, and its title track, below.

Common has a lot to say about the state of race relations in the U.S., and poignantly points out everything that’s wrong with how America treats black lives with the title track from the upcoming album. It begins, “here we go, here here we go again… Trayvon’ll never get to be an older man,” right after a video of one of the many police shootings plays. The song, and probably the entire album, will be  a story of injustice and triumph, and the battle forever being played out for people of color & women. Consider this a rally cry.

Honeyblood, Babes Never Die

Honeyblood is another Scottish musical number, this time a female duo. They formed in 2012 out of Glasgow, Scotland and released their first album, Honeyblood, in 2014. This latest album features singles “Ready for the Magic” and “Sea Hearts”.

A duo can be hard to get into, but Honeyblood isn’t really missing anything from their sound. You get a pretty good idea of that in “Ready for the Magic”, which is a punky-rocky up-tempo song that will make you want to move. And give you some angst.

  6. Walking at Midnight

Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions, Until the Hunter
Tendril Tales

Until the Hunter is the first album since the dream pop band’s 2009 release Through the Devil Softly. Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions is made up of Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star and  Colm Ó Cíosóig from My Bloody Valentine.

Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions is, in my opinion, perfect fall and winter weather music. Hope has a dreamy, creamy, smooth-like-butta voice that is sure to warm you up nicely.

Wiley, Godfather
Big Dada and Boy Better Know / Island

First it was supposed to drop in September. Then October. Now November. We may not get a release, so don’t hold your breath, but it could happen, so just keep your fingers crossed. At one point the rapper called Godfather “pointless” and considered scrapping the entire thing. So.

Wiley shared a pic of the tracklist on Instagram about a month ago. Check it out.
