In the second episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Rebecca finds herself still trying to impress Josh and we get to see Greg struggling with his sobriety.
This season is gearing up to be just as amazing as the first season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. In the second episode, Rebecca and Josh deal with Josh telling a recently sober Greg about their relationship. Rebecca also continues to ruin her relationship with Paula because of Josh.
Greg and his sobriety
The episode opens up with Greg continuing to fix himself, he’s still in AA and he’s talking about how it feels to be sober. It’s of course setting up that he’s going to struggle with his sobriety as the man who runs his AA tells him that he’s in the easy phase of recovery. And then obviously later into the episode, that takes a very real turn.
He finally opens up to his friends and tells Josh, White Josh, and Hector about his alcoholism. And then Josh Chan almost ruins it by turning around and telling Greg that he’s sleeping with Rebecca. Luckily, Greg is stronger than that and while we think he’s drinking again, it’s revealed that instead, he is sitting on the duck pond completely sober.
Josh and Rebecca Still Not Great Together
The next bit reminds us yet again why Rebecca and Josh are a terrible match. In a scene that continues to show that Josh is not nearly as into Rebecca as she is into him, Rebecca keeps asking him what his plans for the weekend are. Every time she asks him what he’s up to, he continually says he has different plans. He’s completely oblivious to the fact that Rebecca wants to hang out with him.
And when she does go and hang out with him, he still doesn’t care that much about Rebecca and she still feels like she has to lie to him. So she finally tells him how she feels and Josh doesn’t really do anything to make it better.
Rebecca stands up for herself and tells Josh that she deserves someone who will treat her better and Josh says “Wow” and continues to play his video game. That’s about it.
Paula Bettering Herself
Paula applies to law school and Rebecca and Paula jump and scream in the most adorable scene in the entire episode. She wants to go to law school to make herself a better person and she asks Rebecca to write her a letter of recommendation.
It leads to Paula singing and being the princess she is and it is everything we’ve always wanted for her. She thinks that maybe this dream could be the dream she deserves and it definitely is. If only Rebecca told Paula that. But it’s okay because Paula has Daryl. As sweet as he is, Daryl writes Paula a recommendation letter without her asking.
Though she bashes his letter and makes fun of Daryl, it’s his letter that she has to submit because Rebecca didn’t get hers into Paula in time. But Rebecca and Paula do share a wonderful moment where the two talk about how much they love each other.
Daryl gets the last laugh though. He got his letter of recommendation used and he spoiled Game of Thrones for Rebecca as revenge. “Ned Stark dies by the way. And don’t get used to Robb either.”
Everyone Is Against Josh
“Again, not about you”, is literally the most important phrase ever said to Josh. In this episode, the voice of reason was surprisingly White Josh. At every turn, it seemed like Josh was making Greg’s sobriety about him and White Josh had to intervene.
And then when Josh tells Greg about him and Rebecca, everyone gets mad and points out why that was terrible. It’s a great contrast to season one where everything Josh did was supposed to be perfect. It shows that he is a little terrible and someone needs to set him straight.
Hector also asked “Why are all my friends in love with this girl?” as Rebecca tried to play ping pong and it was great. Mainly because White Josh and Hector are done with the love triangle crap.
It does lead into White Josh and Hector making a search party to find Greg though. They tell Rebecca and Josh to stay behind but Rebecca doesn’t because she knows exactly where he is. So she goes there alone and Josh goes home to play video games.
Rebecca and Greg
Rebecca finds Greg sitting on a bench looking at the ducks. She tries to play it off like she’s still mad at him and you think it’s a joke until they start talking about the wedding. Then, Rebecca admits that Greg broke her heart.
When she tries to apologize to Greg for what happened, he tells her she doesn’t need to apologize because he chose her since she didn’t like him in the first place. She was his type because she hated him.
But the most heartbreaking moment of the scene was when he explained why he got a DUI the next morning after the wedding. “I was driving over the next morning to tell you I love you”
