29. Sookie’s Pregnancies

Season 3, Episode 16 “The Big One” & Season 5, Episode 6 “Norman Mailer, I’m Pregnant!” & Season 7, Episode 12 “To Whom It May Concern”

All three times Sookie realizes she is pregnant Lorelai is the first to know. Actually, the first two times, Lorelai knows before even Jackson (Jackson Douglas) because she and Sookie figure it out while they’re at work. Sookie’s pregnancies are an emotional time for both women because Sookie has to rely on Lorelai in a way she never had to before. Usually Sookie is the more mature of the two. She takes care of Lorelai (including feeding her). When she is pregnant Sookie looks to Lorelai for advice because in this case she is the one with more experience. Their roles have reversed.

Even though Sookie has Jackson Lorelai is there for all the 2 am freak outs and bed rest meltdowns. As a mother, she understands the drastic changes that happen during a pregnancy and is with her friend every step of the way. When Jackson doesn’t want to know the sex of his baby Lorelai is the one who sits in the shed with Sookie helping her hide all the blue items.

Motherhood bonds women. Sookie has known Rory for her entire life and now Lorelai will be involved the same way with her children. Sharing this experience brings the two women closer than even owning an inn together ever could. Sookie even makes Lorelai the godmother of her daughter, but more on that later.
