10. Lorelai Throws Emily A Bachelorette Party

Season 5, Episode 13 “Wedding Bell Blues”

After their separation Emily and Richard manage to reconcile their differences and celebrate by deciding to renew their vows. After a call from her father the night before the ceremony, Lorelai realizes she was supposed to throw a bachelorette party for her mother. She scrambles to put something together, inviting the women of Stars Hollow to a last minute party with food, drinks, and the required dirty gifts.

The women of Stars Hollow are willing to drop what they are doing to come to a party for a woman they barely know because of their relationship to Rory and Lorelai. The Gilmore women have created a strong community full of people who support each other. Lorelai and Rory plan and attend town events and help out with cat wakes and school plays. They are a vital part of town life so when they need something the town responds in kind.

This is a joyful moment between Lorelai and Emily. While Lorelai is at first reluctant to do anything for her mother, she pulls through in the end. Despite their differences, Lorelai is constantly seeking her mother’s acceptance and approval. In her own small way, Lorelai is reaching out to Emily by inviting her into her world and showing her how much she cares. It is nice to see them getting along, even if it’s only for a little while.
