9. Rory, Lane, and Paris Bond Over Boy Troubles

Season 5, Episode 18 “To Live and Let Diorama”

Rory. Lane. Paris. Miss Patty’s Founders’ Day Punch. Need I say more?

Lane and Paris don’t have anything in common, but in this episode they share the one problem that unites all women: boy troubles. Logan and Doyle won’t call Rory and Paris back and Lane is worried that Zack is cheating on her. Rory and Paris escape Yale and head to Stars Hollow for the weekend in an attempt to get away from the men in their lives. The girls attend the opening of the Wickham House Museum and get way to drunk off of Miss Patty’s punch. They spend most of the afternoon lamenting their love lives. The alcohol also leads to some hilarious advice and hijinks involving Paris trying to find money to use a payphone because it’s 2005 and those still exist.

It is nice to see Lane and Paris in an episode together. There aren’t many scenes featuring Rory’s two best friends. These are the people who are the most important in her life outside of her family. Sharing the same fears and frustrations over dating brings them together. There is no bond quite like the bond of women complaining about the men in their lives.

This is one of the show’s most relatable episodes because really who hasn’t gotten drunk with their friends because a boy you like doesn’t like you back? It is a classic girlfriend moment and one of the best parts of having friends. These are the people you call to cry with and then hope they don’t judge you too much for getting back with the boy that made you cry the next day (like Paris does when Rory gets back together with Logan). These are the friends who hold your head as you lay on the bathroom floor (like Lorelai does for Rory at the end of the episode). The friends who are there for you through the good times and especially the bad.
