17. Lane & Rory to the Rescue

Season 5, Episode 14 “Say Something”

Luke breaks up with Lorelai and Lorelai (and really everyone) is devastated. Lorelai has had her heart broken before but this is different, this is Luke. He’s the kind of guy you don’t get over easily. Lorelai is crushed and the women in her life rush to her rescue.

First, Sookie calls Rory and tells her to come home from Yale because Lorelai needs her. Rory gets home (with a limo provided by Logan) and immediately enlists the help of Lane. Both women go around Stars Hollow picking up items to help comfort Lorelai in her time of need. They bring her junk food and trashy magazines and movies and Rory sets up the TV so she doesn’t have to leave her bed.

Lorelai is a strong, proud woman who has never been very good at asking for help for any reason. This time is no exception. But she doesn’t have to ask. Rory, Sookie, and Lane act without hesitation. These are the moments when you need your friends the most. In her darkest moments, Lorelai has people who will take care of her and just let her be. Sometimes there is nothing more you can do for a friend than just be there.
