Tiny Tim, “Tiptoe Through the Tulips”, 1968

Tiny Tim’s version of “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” was made famous by the movie Insidious, and on Halloween receives more than 2.5x the views it gets on any other day.

"Tiptoe through the window By the window, that is where I’ll be Come tiptoe through the tulips with me Oh, tiptoe from the garden By the garden of the willow tree And tiptoe through the tulips with me Knee deep in flowers we’ll stray We’ll keep the showers away And if I kiss you in the garden, in the moonlight Will you pardon me? And tiptoe through the tulips with me"

It isn’t a very scary song, but of course, horror movies are really great at taking things that *shouldn’t* be scary and turning them on their head. This song is an excellent example of that. It plays in the background during the “demon scene” of Insidious, and is now forever affiliated with terror.

Tiny Tim was not very tiny at 6’1″, but was able to sing in such a high register that he was urged by his manager to go by Tiny Tim. And a legend was born. Tiny Tim taught himself Ukulele but played it left-handed with the strings in their standard placement. He died in 1996 of complications due to heart attack and diabetes.
