Bonus #11: ALL THE TEARS

In a show whose soundtrack alone is almost three hours long, there’s tons of material to unpack. In an article about a show whose soundtrack is three hours long and jam-packed with emotionally nuclear moments that make me crave a coffin, picking just a few tear-jerking tracks is impossible. Remember when Angelica says “I know my sister like I know my own mind!”? Tears. Remember when Washington has Hamilton draft his letter of resignation? Sobs. Remember when you first realized how misunderstood Burr really is, and that his actions are often not only justifiable, but precisely what you would’ve done in his situation? Weeping. Remember when Eliza put herself back in the narrative and decided to keep Hamilton’s legacy alive by publishing the thousands of pages he’d written? And how that decision, one chock-full of honor and love and respect and admiration for the brilliant but troubled man in her life, is the only reason we’re able to have this musical in our lives today? HEAVING!

No promises, but it’s likely that the story behind the making of Hamilton and the journey of its tireless creator, Lin Manuel-Miranda, will squeeze even more tears out of us. If you can handle it, tune in to ‘Hamilton’s America’ on Friday, October 21st at 9 PM on PBS.

Hopefully, we can take Eliza’s advice and stop wasting time on tears. But if needed, I’ll host our first support group. I promise that I’ll make y’all proud, Familton. Raise a glass.
