#16: “Cold Shower”
In an episode chock full of numbers inspired by famous musicals, “Cold Shower” is a stand out. Clearly borrowing heavily from The Music Man‘s “Ya Got Trouble,” this song finds Rebecca trying desperately to convince a group of tenants that their landlord is swindling their money instead of fixing their building’s hot water shortage. And, in true Music Man fashion, the crowd quickly comes to believe her. They’re not just gullible- they’re kinda fools. But watching her get these fools on-board and leading them to sing along with her ridiculous accusations is a real treat. This is one of those songs that reminds us why we love the show so damn much: it’s a musical series being made by musical nerds who love musicals as much as we do, so they put a musical inside of a musical. And I don’t know about you, fellow musical nerds, but Rebecca Bunch could Harold Hill me any ole day. EASILY!!!!!
