#7: “You Stupid Bitch”
This is the song you’ve been waiting for, ladies. The song you want to blast when you truly mess up. The song you wish you could belt in your car while sobbing out the open window after ruining a relationship/a friendship/a job/etc. This is the Alanis Morissette-caliber ballad you need, except instead of being about a cheating boyfriend, it’s about you, from you. Self-love is important. But sometimes, it’s not about what’s important; it’s about what’s going to make you feel better in the moment. And the thing makes Rebecca Bunch feel better after one of her many elaborate ruses to spend time with Josh fails HARD is (theoretically) belting this song. She’s wallowing so fully in self-pity, she actually praises the (again, theoretical) crowd for singing along and joining in on the Rebecca-hate. She’s so defeated, she can think of nothing but insane insulting buzzwords to hurl at herself- through song! And while it may only make her feel better for a second, it certainly makes us feel like when we’re debilitated by self-loathing, at least we’re not the only ones who intentionally supplement our wallow. And at least we haven’t gone so far as to spin our sorrow into song. Yet.
