Roanoke: The Butcher’s Entrance

Roanoke is the latest season of American Horror Story and it has the coolest set up of any of the others. Made to look like a ghost story documentary, the story follows Matt and Shelby.

The two move back to North Carolina after Matt is beaten while living in Los Angeles and Shelby loses their baby. They buy this beautiful old house on a whim and believe that people are tormenting them because they are an interracial couple.

Instead, the house is haunted by the real Roanoke settlers and mainly, the Butcher (Kathy Bates) but it is the first time we see the Butcher that really scared people.

Shelby is trying to escape from the house and is angrily driving down the road and as she does so, a woman suddenly appears in the middle of the road and forces her to stop. Granted, it was a jump scare but it did its job.

The Butcher has a lot more terrifying moments as the season continues to progress but that first look at her made audiences scream (I threw my cell phone across a crowded train I got so scared). And we can’t wait to see what she does next. I mean, she did just disembowel someone in the last episode!
