3: Track 4, “A Place We Set Afire”, 4:20

I love the word “afire” and therefore I love “A Place We Set Afire”. And this song probably has the best lyric of the entire album, “You tell me there must be a little light left flickering / Burning in a place we set afire.”

My god, what an image.

"You tell me there must be a little light left flickering Burning in a place we set afire But no one will listen if we just wait here to burn We’ve gotta swing away, gotta cut the wire Try to breathe the air that’s here and now Try to find some peace in falling out We don’t have to say goodbye But we can’t get lost in time I’ll be yours and you’ll be mine Maybe in another life"

This song is the first ballad of the album and is heavy on highlighting vocals, which are mostly in a lower register than what we’re used to from Ryan. If you’re like me and have been missing the violin, right before the bridge there is a violin solo, although the sound has changed from the Ocean Avenue days, it’s still what you’ve come to love and expect from these guys.
