How to Get Away with Murder: 3 Questions for Episode 3

Here’s what we want to know from How to Get Away with Murder’s next episode.

Warning: this post contains spoilers for How to Get Away with Murder’s September 29 episode, “There Are Worse Things Than Murder.” Need a refresher? We have a recap.

Once again, we have plenty of questions after How to Get Away with Murder‘s second episode, even though it primarily focused on the present as opposed to that all-important scene of Annalise’s burning house.

Of course, we want to know who’s beneath the sheet in the flash-forward. That’ll remain a major question, however, until someone actually pulls the sheet back and the camera captures it.

For now, here are our 3 questions going into episode 3 next week.

1. What’s going on between Wes and Laurel?

We saw last season that Laurel and Wes grew pretty close after he ended up shooting Annalise. However, everything we’ve seen from them this season looks like the aftermath of an awkward hookup with some feelings underneath.

More from TV

Wes’ new girlfriend, Meggy, said that he talks about Laurel all the time to her. In fact, we even see him telling Annalise that Laurel’s his best friend and that he trusts her. Even Connor teamed them up during this week’s case.

He would be a step up from Frank, whom Laurel can’t stop calling (though Bonnie and Annalise are now using that to their advantage). Did something happen with them over the summer, or will something end up happening during the season?

Who knows, it might even lead to him breaking up with Meggy. That relationship simply looks like it is not long for this world. (Then again, Oliver and Connor looked the same way, and now look what’s happened: we’re actively mourning their breakup.)

2. Why did Annalise give Oliver a phone and tell him to wipe it?

Poor, poor Oliver. He has now gotten deep into the world of Annalise Keating, and it doesn’t look like he will get out anytime soon. In the flash-forward, before she gets arrested, she hands him a phone and tells him to wipe it clean.

In other words, she may be far deeper in the house-burning/murder than we expect. Her tears suggest otherwise, but we’ve seen her put on an act before. Either way, it appears to contain something vital to whatever scheme she has going this time — vital enough for her to trust Oliver with it.

Besides, she doesn’t have a heavy object handy to destroy it herself.

3. Whose phone is it?

The obvious answer would be that the phone belongs to Annalise, and that she’s been using it for a cover-up of some sorts. However, the most obvious answer doesn’t always turn out to be the right one.

As far as we can tell so far, she probably didn’t take it off the corpse. However, that doesn’t mean she didn’t obtain it earlier from whoever’s dead. It might even be Frank’s, should she lure him back with the Laurel-voicemail scheme (or by other means…Annalise doesn’t put all her eggs in one basket).
