This comes towards the end of the list because it’s safe too, just a different kind of safe. In 2011 Elizabeth Moss was still in the throes of fame for her role of Peggy on Mad Men. Her character was still something of an innocent one, and her reputation that of a nice girl. This dress plays to all those perceptions of the viewing audience at home. The pale color, the soft hair and the light makeup all make sure not to challenge what anyone sitting at home might think of her.

But we have to hand it to her, the dress is not plain. It borders on pretty princess in fact, which is decidedly not the safest route for TV actresses over the age of 18. And though it is pale, it’s not red, nor is it black, and that’s enough to stand out in the crowd more than you’d think. We certainly hope to see a few actresses take a chance on a variation of this dress this year.
