So Much Creepy Sexuality

This is the biggie. Labyrinth is responsible for bringing many a young woman into her sexuality, but that’s not to say the movie isn’t creepy as hell. Let’s start off with the main issue: Jareth is way too wrapped up in getting a 14-year-old girl to like him! He even plaintively sings about being unble to live “within [her]” when Sarah finally finds Toby. If you weren’t ready to call the cops when he cape-swished his way into her parent’s room, then you were itchy watching the ballroom scene.

This scene is one of the main reasons any future boyfriend/husband of mine must master the art of dance. It’s a creepy masquerade scene, and I’m fairly certain Sarah was roofied via peach to get there (that’s a loaded sentence!), but it’s the closest Sarah and Jareth get to each other. It’s a moment that’s equal parts romantic and disturbing for anyone over 20. Endless Halloween couples costumes and entire tome of Labyrinth fanfiction has arisen from this relationship, We all were looking for our Jareth, and many still are.
