Bastille’s New Album Wild World Reviewed & Ranked
Track 10: “Four Walls (The Ballad Of Perry Smith)”, 4:12
Okay, here’s a true ballad on the album. “Four walls” follows “Lethargy”, which is an interesting and smart lead into this song. Read the lyrics to both tracks back to back- you’ll see how they juxtapose and compliment each other nicely.
"“These four walls will keep you Until you face the rope You’ve only these four walls before they, in cold blood, hang you up”"
Although there is quite a bit of repitition in this song, I’m not going to count any points off. The heartfelt lyrics (however few there may be) and interesting instrumentals make up for the repeating. And, honestly, the guys are so emotionally invested in the song, that you almost don’t notice it, especially after a few spins.
This could easily become one of my favorite tracks after some more listens. It didn’t stick out to me until I’d listened a few times, and each time, I find another reason to dig in a little deeper. The other super cool thing is that this track rolls right into “Blame”, which is a little further down on the list. I LOVE “Blame”, and I love how “Four Walls” flows right into it.
The only points I deduct from this guy is for the damn voice-overs- AGAIN. Spare me, really.
