Bastille’s New Album Wild World Reviewed & Ranked
Track 9: “Lethargy”, 3:25
Here come those drums that I love so much.
The percussion in this song is reminiscent of the tempo and timing in “Things We Lost In The Fire” from Bad Blood, and in fact, the whole feel of the song is similar, even though we’re dealing in two different story lines. In “Lethargy”, you get the feeling that this person is struggling with being stuck in life- lethargy has set in, and they want to escape it, but don’t know how to do that, exactly.
"“You told me not to be like anybody else Headspin, happiness, death Be like anybody else Broke down, nothing else left You checked out years ago Oh what I’d to not to worry like you You checked out years ago Oh what I’d do not to worry like you”"
And, again, they do the sampled voice-overs in this song. Can I just go ahead and say enough already? Maybe those appeal to some people, and I won’t go so far to say it completely ruins the album for me, but in some tracks (this one, for example) it can almost take away from the feeling. It’s like being in a trance, then someone coming over and shaking you out of your meditation.
