Track 18: “Shame”, 3:30

“Shame” is a summer jam that’s just a month too late. It’s got some lasting power, though, and on an album with nineteen tracks, it’s not crazy to think Bastille won’t still be releasing singles next Summer.

I’ll cross my fingers.

“Shame” has a soulful sound with horns and catchy bass line that makes it perfect for playing loud with the windows down. It reminds me of old school Maroon 5, except British. Need I say more?

"“I can see a change, I can see a change in you I see it coursing through your veins And it is a shame, oh it is a shame on you I barely recognize your face”"

The message of the song is one which we could all hear. You know those people who have been with us for a long time? It can be hard, but if they no longer serve you for the better, it’s time to let go. As the song says, there doesn’t have to be any “love lost”, but you should go your separate ways. It’s best for all parties involved.

The thing about Bastille and songs like “Shame”, is that they aren’t down-tempo sad ballads. This song is joyful. The horns give it a party feel, and the entire song is happy sounding. So, smile through whatever crap you’re going through, because it’s very likely going to get so much better.
