1. Jon Snow: Zero to Hero

"Say amen There he goes again Sweet and undefeated And an awesome 10 for 10 He was a nothin’ A zero, zero Now he’s a hot shot He’s our hero —Hercules"

Bless my soul, Jon is on a roll. From Ned Stark’s bastard to Night’s Watchman to Lord Commander, Jon has been rising through the ranks since the show began. We hit that little snag when he was stabbed to death in Season 5, but look at him now—freshly resurrected and King in the North. Something tells me that this will work out better for him than it did for Robb (RIP), otherwise we’re just stuck with the same ol’ story. That’s not really Game of Thrones’ style. Besides, Jon is sort of necessary to the whole White Walker predicament.

Regardless of his future, Jon’s past really is of herculean proportions. In six seasons, he’s gone from bastard of Winterfell to part-time owner of the place (along with Sansa). And the interim has been positively brimming with his heroic deeds. Even the post-death jaded Jon has a streak of honor within him that makes him the series’ quintessential hero, although still one of the underdogs.

And therein lies the intrigue—Jon was an underdog who beat the odds to stand where he does today. It’s not only what he does for others, but what he does for himself that makes Jon the guy we’re going to root for. Watching him face down the Bolton armies was every bit as satisfying as watching Hercules master all his labors in the span of one brightly-colored Disney musical number. This is what we’re here for, the nobodies who claw their way up to “somebody” status. It’s Jon’s efforts to be more than a bastard, and his resilience in the face of adversity, that make him our knight in shining armor. Or our knight in a finely stitched wolf cloak, as it were.
