38. Paul Simon

There aren’t too many musicians who have managed to maintain a successful career for over five decades. Paul Simon is unique in his ability to consistently pump out excellent music that appeals to audiences of all generations. He has been named on several lists like “100 Greatest Songwriters” and “100 Greatest Guitarists”, and more. Whether on his own or with his former musical partner Art Garfunkel, Paul Simon is one of the best musicians ever.

Despite the fact that Simon and Garfunkel dissolved their partnership twenty years before I was even born, their music has always played an important role in my life. There’s a song to go along with every mood and every emotional situation I find myself in.

Simon has released a few dozen albums over the span his career, some better than others, but you can’t argue that he was responsible for penning some of the greatest songs of all time. At 74, he’s still going strong, but 2016 has been known to strike at random. We’ve already lost a number of beloved stars who were much younger than that. He still has so many more fantastic songs inside him to share with the world, and there needs to be another Simon & Garfunkel reunion immediately. It’s hard to imagine living in a world where there’s no longer any chance of seeing those two take the stage together again. Please, 2016, be kind to Paul Simon.
