28. Idris Elba

Idris Elba is a hard name to forget but so is his incredible acting. He has been nominated four times for a Golden Globe Award, winning one, and was nominated five times for a Primetime Emmy Award. Elba started acting in 1995 in bit TV parts. His big break would not happen until 2002 when he has cast as Russell “Stringer” Bell in the HBO hit series, The Wire. Elba captivated audiences with his interpretation of drug kingpin turned legitimate business owner. Elba’s portrayal of Bell made him a household name almost overnight. Soon after his stunning performance on The Wire, Hollywood called him up.

He started his movie career gradually but was still the lead actor in many films like The Gospel (2005), Daddy’s Little Girls (2007), and Obsessed (2009). Elba’s popularity was boosted by the appearance in the movie Thor (2011). This spurred a long string of science fiction and comic book related films from, Elba. While he was enjoying his new found popularity in movies, he was also starring in the BBC One crime drama TV show called Luther. Elba yet again struck gold. Critics and fans were left in awe of Elba portrayal of the title character, DC John Luther. While Elba was filming Luther, was also working on the movie called Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Elba representation of Nelson Mandela earned him his first nomination for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama.

Elba is going to be around Hollywood for many years to come because he can do it all. If you need someone, to do debonair gentleman or ruthless kingpin or even a voice over, he is your guy. He can do it all. We need to make sure we keep giving significant roles and keep him safe.
