29. Robert Redford

Having made a name for himself as an actor since the 1950s, Robert Redford is one of those names that everyone just knows. Even if you’re not overly familiar with his body of work, you know who he is. At 80-years-old (seriously, he’s 80?), Redford is still making movies, whether he is in front of the camera of behind it. He made a name for himself in spy thrillers of the 1970s, and gave a nod to his former roles as Alexander Pierce in Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2013.

He is also responsible for creating the Sundance Institute and Film Festival, which caters to independent filmmakers in the United States and has received recognition from the industry as a place to open films. On top of that, he is also a staunch supporter of Native American and LGBTQ rights, and is an environmentalist.

To take Robert Redford away from us now would be devastating. Redford shows no signs of slowing down any time soon, he seems to be in excellent health (unless you count some of those atrocious death hoax headlines, but who does?), and he clearly still wants to do so much more for future filmmakers and generations of young people. If 2016 takes him away from us, I will probably launch myself into the stratosphere out of grief.
