The vast majority of internet fandom is likely more familiar with Freema Agyeman from her time on Doctor Who as Martha Jones, one of the companions of the Tenth Doctor, but she’s also dabbled a little in fictional law enforcement as a character on the British version of Law and Order and her more recent roles include a supporting part on the Netflix drama Sense8.

When it comes to the history of the James Bond franchise, certain films have struggled with representation and the respectful portrayal of different cultures apart from that of Bond’s Great Britain. The newer films have made better attempts to navigate away from those somewhat problematic story narratives and character depictions, but there’s really only so far they can continue to go with a white man cast in the lead. More diverse casting could be made legitimate in an already established if “007” was merely passed down from James Bond to other “Bonds”, or other agents under similar aliases. Agyeman’s Bond would undoubtedly wear a lot of leather, kick a lot of ass and make up for a lot of the franchise’s prior missteps.
