18. Monkey Jacket

When actress Lotte Verbeek who plays convicted witch Geillis Duncan in season one saw Dresbach’s “Monkey Jacket” and asked what would it look like if she put it on backward. They never changed it back. While the jacket resembles some strange animal skin, it is wool.  Lotte enjoyed putting the front of the jacket (what would have been the spine) as a pet. Very reminiscent of the James Bond villain Ernst petting his cat Oliver.

Her skirt was made from linen wool from Ireland and with the material wrong side out. While Geillis look might be a series of happenstance the real star are her red shoes. The shoes are of the period but are incredibly small. None of the principle actresses could fit into them. Terry was ready to store the shoes away thinking she could not use them for this season until Verbeek came in for a fitting. She saw the shoes and thought they looked like something a witch would wear. Terry told her to try them, but they were tiny. They were a perfect fit on Lotte, and our very own wicked witch Geillis has now arrived.
